Born in 1856, John E. Dallas first made Banjos in 1873. In the begriming it was advertised that he personally played every banjo his company built In the early 1900's the company took the name John E. Dallas & Sons. by the late 1920's , instruments were being mass produced under the name "Jedson." Which was derived from "J.E.D" (John E. Dallas) and "Sons". John E. Dallas died in 1921
